LAKE KANASATKA WATERSHED ASSOCIATION
Center Harbor, NH Firehouse Building
August 21, 2004

President John Scudder opened the meeting and stated that the rainy day had
made it necessary to move to the firehouse instead of at Vonhurst Beach and
that the picnic was canceled.

Barbara Lauterwasser read the minutes from the July 24th meeting and they
were approved as read.
The latest loon report is that the chick is doing well.

Doug Whitley reported that Bob Craycraft from UNH had been on lake Kanasatka
and that there is no milfoil on the lake, in response to an inquiry to that
effect.

John Scudder asked about putting together a packet for homeowners to have
available for rentals describing the social and legal regulations of use of
the lake. This could be an update of former packets from other years. Lee
Hart offered to distribute the information to the rental agencies.

John Scudder introduced Sgt. Crystal McClain from the NH Marine Patrol who
described the work of the Marine Patrol with NH lakes and waterways. There
are 10 full time officers and 80 part time workers - volunteers, etc. There
are 800 lakes and streams.
Regarding the Personal Water Craft, there should be an orange decal for a 3
person boat. The safe passage area is 150 feet from the shoreline or a raft
or float.
By 2008 everyone will need a Boat Education Certificate. Notification of
testing schedules as well as a sample test can be found on the internet. If
someone under 16 years is operating a boat, the owner needs a BEC.
By next year the Marine Patrol hopes to have an available boat on the lake.

The treasurer, Bob Brennan, gave his report.

There is a current balance of $3275.51.

Expenditures include: $200 - Loon Preservation Committee
200 - Lakes Region Conservation Trust
200 - New Hampshire Lakes Association
50 - Use of LPC building for July meeting
The treasuere's report was accepted as presented.

Next year, there will be another boat count on the lake. Any volunteers for
this project, please contact John Scudder. It will take place before the
July LKWA meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara B. Lauterwasser
