LAKE KANASATKA WATERSHED ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING
August 16, 2008
Moultonborough Public Library Community Room
(these minutes not yet approved by membership)
The Lake Kanasatka Watershed Association (LKWA) held its second meeting of the summer on August 16, 2008, at the Moultonborough Library. The meeting was called to order at 9:15 AM by President Antonia von Gottberg who proceeded to introduce the other current officers and committee chairpersons.
Program: Ms. von Gottberg then stated that today’s meeting would begin with a presentation on the new statewide Comprehensive Shoreline Protection Act (CSPA), that became effective on July 1, 2008, and that the business meeting would take place after the program.
She introduced Jay Aube from the NH Department of Environmental Services (DES) which is the agency charged with implementing and enforcing the law. Mr. Aube passed out written copies of a PowerPoint Presentation he presented. See attached file/document at http://www.des.state.nh.us/cspa/documents/2008cspa.pdf After the slide presentation, the speaker took questions.
Business Meeting: Ms. von Gottberg then asked the Secretary to read the minutes of the LKWA Annual Meeting held July 12, 2008. The minutes were accepted as read by Secretary Jane Fairchild. There was no Treasurer’s report as that report had been accepted at the earlier meeting. Von Gottberg asked for a motion to donate to the following organizations per our usual practices: Loon Preservation Committee, $200; Lakes Region Conservation Trust, $200; NH Lakes Association, $200; Squam Lake Association, $200. A motion was made and seconded and the donations were approved as read. A motion was also made to approve a donation in the amount of $100 (two meetings in 2008 at $50 per meeting) to the Moultonborough Library, assuming there are sufficient funds in the Treasury. So moved.
President von Gottberg asked for volunteers for the Hospitality Committee and Mark Whary, Ted Hilton and Scott Bowden agreed to serve on the Committee for the coming year. There were no volunteers for Boat Parade chair. She also asked for volunteers for the Nominating Committee but no one came forward.
Old Business: A question was raised about the status of the Kilnwood application to expand their dock and other matters. von Gottberg stated there had been no change as far as she knows. The application is still pending at DES.
A question was raised about the loon chicks. Mary Whary stated they had been missing since two days after they were hatched and that no one knew what had happened to them. Someone volunteered that the Loon Preservation Society believed their demise may have been caused by the “rogue” (unattached) loon living on the lake this summer.
A comment was made that some people missed having the picnic this year.
A question was raised as to whether anyone is currently “mapping” the lake shoreline and no one knew the answer to this.
New Business: Garrett Colgan-Snyder, Director of the new Camp Hawkeye on the lake, introduced himself and described the camp’s mission and various activities of the summer. Between 30 and 50 campers have attended this summer.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:15 am.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jane E. Fairchild, Secretary, LKWA
