President John Scudder opened the meeting and introduced the present officers: Vice President - Laurie Whitley; Secretary - Barbara Lauterwasser and Treasurer - Doug Whitley (in absentia).
Members of the Standing Committees include: Water Quality Committee - Kevin and Sandra Kelly, Peter and Jane Fairchild, and Barbara and Herb Lauterwasser. Rudy and Flo LaPorte have recently replaced the Lauterwassers.
Hospitality Committee - Fox Smith, Mary Ann McRae and Jill Anderson.
The minutes of the July 15, 2007 meeting were accepted as presented.
John Scudder summarized the results of the Water Quality Testing Program from the 2006 report and reported that the transparency of the lake basically has not changed since 1983 and it qualified as a pristine lake. The 1.7 parts per billion chlorophyll concentration range is better than last year. The color of the water has not changed since 1998 and the alkalinity is good. The figures are unchanged from last year.
John Scudder introduced John Cooley, a biologist with the Loon Preservation Committee, who talked about the raft for the loons. The present raft has not been used in 10 years, possibly because of the high water level of the lake and perhaps in another year, a raft will be located in another area of the lake. He will work with Mark Whary of Kilnwood on placing a raft.
He answered questions about the state of the loons at the present time , the number of loons on this lake at the moment and other questions of interest. Laurie Whitley thanked John for his work on the LPC.
Mary Ann McCrae asked about the feasibility of having just one meeting and social each summer instead of 2 meetings.
The present Constitution calls for 2 meetings but could be amended at some future time.
She said the present Hospitality Committee is looking for new volunteers to help with or take over the duties of the present committee.
John Scudder said that next year there will be a new President and Secretary. John thanked Barbara Lauterwasser for her 8 years of service. At the moment, there is no candidate for the secretarial job. Herb Lauterwasser said that Antonia Von Gottberg, a neighbor of the Lauterwassers at 73 Red Hill Road,
will be assuming the job of President. She was unable to be present today. She and her husband, Fred, are now residents on the lake and attended an Association meeting last summer.
By a show of hands, Antonia was unanimously voted in as the new President of the LKWA for the 2008 -2009 term.
In other new business, John talked about the current method of LKWA record keeping. Important papers are being passed on from President to President in various boxes. These boxes are then kept in the President's home. He felt there should be a better way to keep and protect these documents. So to provide a more permanent, central and secure location for these papers, John has made arrangements with the Moultonborough Public Library to keep LKWA documents there. These documents will be available for future Presidents or any member of the LKWA to access.
In closing , President John Scudder thanked the group for attending the meeting. Vice President Laurie Whitley thanked John for his four years of service.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting, it was seconded and all voted their approval.
A picnic lunch followed the meeting.
